Why Dogs are Better than Kids

For all you who do or don't have kids...
Kibble and water are cheaper than formula and diapers.
They have more hair when they are born.
Dogs never forget to "go" before they leave.
Dogs can go on long trips without yelling "MOM HE'S TOUCHING ME!!!!"
Dogs never grow out of being kissed in front of their friends.
Dogs don't wear holes in the knees of their trousers.
It doesn't matter how much dog hair a Dog gets in its mouth.
You can cage a dog without going to jail.
Dogs don't "backwash" crackers when sharing your soda.
Dogs will watch classic Star Trek with you and won't laugh at the special effects.
Dogs hide their "blankies" in their crates rather than dragging them around in public.
It's OK and even encouraged to tattoo your Dog
The older a Dog gets, the more they like you.
Dogs don't ask why. Dogs don't ask why. Dogs don't ask why.
Dogs don't roll their eyes when you insist Dogs today have it easier.
Dogs stick their tongue deep inside your ear canal; children use a pencil.
Dogs don't jump on the bed; they just quietly shed in them and lay on you, considerately adding to your warmth.
Dog poop is easier to get off the wall than crayon.
When Dogs don't listen to you, it is because they cannot understand the complex human language.
Dogs have tails, making it easier to grab them as they run away.
No one passes you a Dog with a loaded diaper.
Dogs dig for buried treasure in the litterbox. Kids won't even dump the litterbox.
When Dogs interrupt you making love, you don't have to explain that the two of you are "wrestling to see who does the dishes."
Dogs don't grow out of their shoes every 2 1/2 months.
Dogs, when entering those teen years, are neutered.

Last Months Projects

I don't usually sew things for myself and so this month I set out to do just that.

The fabric for the first skirt was fabric I got off of freecycle. It has a waistband that can be folded down or scrunched down. In the pic it is folded down. The second skirt is from a yellow fabric I have had around way too long.
At the beginning of October I went to watch the Bears Packers game with my family. I was told I had to root for the Packers so I made this sweater to wear. Unfortunately it was unseasonably warm and I couldn't wear it.

I also made matching bandannas for the dogs. Kona wasn't into posing that day.

Cro-hook

It is a combination of crocheting and knitting that creates a double sided blanket. Here is a purple/varigated one for a friend. No fancy edging yet.

Sorry Everyone!

I finally got around to packing up the last of our winter clothes last week. Yeah, you heard that right- I waited until August to put away the winter clothes. It was so hot outside that I really just wanted to stay in and do something. I organized the drawers in Toby's dresser and took out all the cold weather clothes. I put all the shirts back in ROYGBIV order (just as my drawers always are) and made a pile for goodwill things. I went through the closet and took all the sweaters off their hooks. Then, I trekked over to Wal-mart and bought a new plastic bin.
I knew as I was packing all the stuff up that it wasn't a good idea.

So, what happens? It gets cold. I had to search out a sweater to wear the other day. How ridiculous, but I so expected that to happen.

One Seam Convertible Dress

I've been looking at this dress online for a few weeks now and really wanted to finally get around to making it. It can be worn in a whole combination of ways. Somehow we didn't get many back shots, but this should give you a good idea. Please ignore my wayward hair. I wan't planning a modeling shot. Joanns was having a sale on knits this week so I finally went down and spent $9 on my dress. I LOVE it! And so does Toby!

Cool Dogs

At the end of June, I know I need to post more, we watched Viktor, my in-laws german shephard. For the most part it went OK. He never peeded in our house which surprised me because he seems to do that every time we visit and he really seems to like Rusty. Vik is really possesive of food, but for whatever reason he let Rusty eat out of his food bowl. They would just sort of switch bowls in the middle of eating. Unfortuatly, I had to switch them back so that I didn't end up with a sick Vik, but I thought it was cute. Vik, however, did not like Kona. I think that she may be a little to active for him in his old age. As long as we watched them it seemed to go OK. He only drew blood once! Anyways, we took pictures when he was here to give his Mom. I just thought I should share because they turned out cute. Rusty wasn't as cooperative so his picture isn't included.

Weird Wedding Ideas

I was driving to church Wednesday night and one of the people I was driving with was telling me that her wedding was going to leave people wondering a little because there were a few unconventional things. So, I asked what those were. Turns out she is having two bridesmaids and four groomsmen. Two of those groomsmen are her brothers. Um, I told her, that is just like my wedding was. So, maybe not so unique as she feared. Really there is a point to this story...

I was checking my email the other day and got an update from another blog I read. She posted about duct tape and had a link to a duck tape wedding dress (http://www.ducttapeguys.com/fashion/wedding/photos.html). Now that is unconventional and will leave people a little stunned. I wonder if my friend will consider this!

Moving Day

When we first got Kona I knew I would want to find her a crate. So, I posted on Madison Freecycle and someone replied with an offer for a medium crate. I knew that we would eventually need to get a bigger one as this one was the same size as Rusty's and Kona was certainly going to be bigger than that. Well, the time came (at only 4 months) that I knew I needed to start looking again. I scoured Craigslist every day looking for a bigger crate, but people were asking way too much money. I was going to give in and get a beaten up cheap one when I decided to post on freecycle again just in case. I posted that I needed something at least a little bigger to buy us a little more time. Much to my surprise I received a response for a large crate. I went to pick it up and the thing almost didn't fit in the Jetta. I was almost speechless when I saw it. Our last one was OK, but it had rust and you could tell it was old. This new one is in like-new condition and it is almost exactly like Rusty's (except MUCH larger). One thing that makes this nice is that it has handles that click the top and bottom together instead of screws. I can't believe our luck. This new one is a $150 crate for free. God is good! Now Rusty has his Furrari and Kona her Innovator.
Kona enjoying her new DigsAs you can see, Kona was getting a little small for her old house

FYI: Kona look smaller in this picture,
but she is MUCH bigger than Rusty

Bonding Time

Well, everything is going great. Kona and Rusty are still great friends and manage to run off a lot of energy together. When Kona is napping Rusty will lie next to her and wait. Every time she turns over or makes any noise Rusty's tail starts going hoping she is finally waking up. However, they do sometimes sleep at the same time and it is so cute!

Introducing...

KONA
(as in coffee)
It is hard to remember when Rusty was that little. He looks huge next to her. However, in no time she'll tower over him and he won't know what hit him. Right now Rusty is very happy to have a new playmate and he will not leave her alone. Poor thing can't even pee by herself. We actually had to leave him inside on one of her trips out just to give her some peace.
Kona is very playful and she isn't afraid to jump right onto Rusty. Unlike Rusty she doesn't cower. She gets right in there and growls at him.
And, Rusty hasn't bitten the couch since she got here. Right now he is stationed outside her crate waiting for her to wake up so that she can come back out and play. Every once in awhile he lets out a little whine. Waiting is hard!

A Box Has No Chance

Rusty is recovering well. He spent the first night sleeping and let me eat food sitting right next to him whitout too much crying. By the next night he was starting to get back to his old self. He was jumping up to lick the counter and whining during meals. I took some pictures last week of Rusty playing with a box. He'll chew on everything in site. Good thing I didn't need to return what came in this box.

Rusty's New Trick

In honor or Rusty's neutering today I thought I would show off his new trick. It took a couple of weeks before I could get him to do this without leading him with a treat. He seems to get it now. This is "sit pretty"

Here are some quotations that I found the other day and wanted to share. I actually found them on a joke website that had a listing to church message boards.

Don't wait for 6 strong men to take you to church.

When you get to your wit's end, you'll find God lives there.

Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on your front door forever.

God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.

The good Lord didn't create anything without a purpose, but mosquitoes come close.

Coincidence is when God chooses to remain anonymous.

Give Satan an inch and he'll be a ruler.

Snow, Where are you?

So I know people are going to think that I am crazy, but I want snow, and lots of it. See, I got new cross country skis for Christmas and I can't use them without snow. I also got a new hat the other day.

So far this winter we have only gotten a couple of inches. This is a lot less then they got in Illinois, in case you are wondering... The problem is that it has been too warm. Yesterday we set a record high for January. Ugh.

What is funny is that I had to go to REI to exchange my skis for the right size and we were talking to the checkout guy and he was also hoping for snow. I told him that I thought I was the only crazy one. Guess not. Well, here is to hoping!
